Khaptad National Park

Overview

KHAPTAD: which is located in the Far-Western region, is the place where many people want to visit. In May to June the flower that blooms is the beautiful forest flower. In the winter season snow falls and then the magnetic and breathtaking rhododendron blossoms.

The height of Khaptad ranges from 1,262 to 3,276 meters. There are twenty two parks that we can visit. Government of Nepal declared 225 kilometers of Bajura, Doti, Bhajang and Accham as the Khaptad National Park in 2043 BS. There is security all over the national park. Khaptad is mentioned in Skanda Puran. Khaptad Baba (Guru) stayed there for seventy years. He meditated there for years. Late king Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev frequently visited Khaptad Baba (guru) during his reign.

We can visit Triveni Dham, Khaptad Baba Ashram, Khapar Daha, Sahastra Linga and Daune. We need to stay in Khaptad at least for two nights. Through Khaptad it takes twelve days to visit Rara Lake. There is a belief that Yudhistir went to heaven from Khaptad. There is a fair in Trivenidham during Dashain festival. Triveni is the river that generated by the confluence of Ganges, Jamuna and Saraswati. So, there is a popular belief that if anyone takes bath deep inside the river then all of the sins are removed. In a garden named ‘Jaivik Fulbari’ we can find 372 different species of trees and herbs. Some medicinal herbs like Kalkut, Panchaaule, Niramsij along with 125 different herbs are available in Khaptad. We can also find variety of birds.

Traveling to Khaptad is not easy. There are no hotels available. Some hotels are established near the area of national park but one need to book the rooms before arriving. Thus, it would be a good idea to take sleeping bags and some dry foods along with. There is a road way available from Silgadi to Jhigrana. Lodges are found in Jhigrana. It is the entrance of Khaptad. Only reserved vehicles go to Khaptad from Jhigrana.
